The Dolphin Squad of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) says it averted an oil pipeline explosion at Aboru-Cacatin Creek, Iyana-Ipaja area of Lagos State.
The agency in a Facebook post on Tuesday, May 18, said the unit received a distress call from the Community Development Association (CDA) to the effect that petrol was gushing out of a pipeline in the community.

“Upon arrival at the incident scene, a huge volume of petrol was seen gushing out of the NNPC pipeline”, the statement read.

After investigations conducted by officials of LASEMA and other responders at the scene, it was revealed that the incident occurred as a result of sudden eruption of a weak peg on the pipeline that passes through the area.

Upon the discovery, the LASEMA Response Team swiftly contacted the NNPC maintenance team for repairs and thereafter carried out enlightenment in the community to avoid any form of open flame that could result to a major disaster.

Residents had evacuated the area while repair of the damaged pipeline was going.
“The NNPC maintenance crew successfully completed the repair of the damaged pipeline and stopped the flow of the PMS. The community is now safe for domestic activities. “Emergency responders at the scene were the LASEMA Team, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, the Nigerian Police Force, the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps and Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service”, the statement ended.
