Mo Salah, Liverpool’s talisman, picked up a hamstring playing for Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations, leaving Anfield stunned and their manager, Jurgen Klopp, with a furrowed brow.

This isn’t your typical knock for Salah, mind you. In six and a half seasons at Liverpool, the Egyptian maestro has missed a meagre ten Premier League games. Now, at 31, his fitness record is the envy of strikers half his age. So, when Klopp heard the news, shock was the word of the day.

“He felt it, and we all know Mo rarely needs to come off,” Klopp confided in reporters. “There was definitely something there.”

Details are scarce, as they often are in the early stages of these things. “I don’t have anything more right now,” Klopp admitted. “They’re doing more tests, then we’ll know.”

Meanwhile, Egypt coach Rui Vitoria is cautiously optimistic. “I think it’s not dangerous,” he said, “but let’s see if Salah recovers.”

Liverpool are playing it cool too. They expect Salah back in early February anyway, but a longer layoff would be a brutal blow. After all, the Reds are top of the league, chasing silverware in three other competitions, and desperately missing their star man.

Adding to the drama, an injury ward full of walking wounded means Klopp will be without a staggering nine players this weekend, including Salah, Robertson, Alexander-Arnold, and Matip. The good news? Some are on the mend, maybe even ready for Wednesday’s League Cup semi-final.

“They’re all positive, but not ready yet,” Klopp explained. “Trent, Dom, Robbo, all getting closer. Some might be back in training next week, but Bournemouth’s too soon.”

So, there you have it. A cloud hangs over Salah’s fitness, and with it, Liverpool’s title ambitions. Klopp’s juggling act just got a whole lot harder, and Anfield anxiously awaits news of their missing maestro. Will Salah return soon, or is this a season-defining setback? Only time, and those MRI scans, will tell.
