Ex-Power Minister Walks Free After Bail, Despite $6 Billion Power Scandal

Remember that high-ranking official who was nabbed for a shady power deal worth billions? Well, Olu Agunloye, the former Minister of Power and Steel, just strolled out of prison after meeting his bail conditions. This, despite facing serious charges of swindling the government out of a cool $6 billion!

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) accused Agunloye of handing over a massive contract for the Mambilla hydropower project without proper approval or even the money to back it up. Like, building a giant power plant without even a budget? Talk about ambitious!

The EFCC even claims Agunloye pocketed a nice chunk of change for his troubles – a sweet N3.6 million kickback. Not exactly chump change!

But Agunloye insists he’s innocent, pleading not guilty in court. And now, he’s back on the streets, free as a bird (with a hefty bail hanging over his head, that is).

This whole Mambilla mess has been dragging on for years, tangled up in lawsuits and accusations of corruption. Some say it’s a prime example of how bigwigs game the system, while others believe Agunloye is just a victim of false accusations.

One thing’s for sure: this story is far from over. The court will decide Agunloye’s fate soon, and the electricity in Nigeria might depend on it (literally!). So, stay tuned!
