I recently had the opportunity to watch “The Trade,” a film produced by the talented Jade Osiberu, and I must say, it left me utterly captivated. The movie features an impressive cast including Rita Dominic, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Shawn Faqua, and many other notable actors, creating a vivid portrayal of a gripping narrative.

The Arresting Drama Unfolds

The story revolves around a formidable kidnapper and his gang who have been terrorizing the Southern region of Nigeria. Rita Dominic shines as Doris, a powerful woman who manages to escape from their clutches, setting off a series of events that eventually lead to the gang’s downfall. The ensemble cast, each bringing their own unique flair to the film, creates a rich tapestry of characters.

Blossom Steals the Show

Blossom Chukwujekwu’s acting is pure magic. He disappears into the role of Eric, his aura and presence chillingly convincing. It’s like Jade Osiberu has a superpower for finding perfect actors. Remember Tobi Bakre in “Gangs of Lagos?” Same deal here! Blossom deserves all the awards for this performance.

Kidnapping as Big Business

While some may find the title seemingly straightforward, it takes a discerning mind to appreciate how perfectly it aligns with the narrative. “The Trade” shows kidnapping as the cold-blooded business it has become in Nigeria. Osiberu takes us on a disturbing journey, detailing how Eric’s network operates. From planning kidnappings to laundering money, we see the system that fuels this industry. Greedy bankers, underfunded police, and corrupt officers – they all play a part. It’s a chilling exposé of a real problem.

The Master of Disguise

Eric is a mastermind. He handles his dirty business with the utmost caution. His name alone sends shivers down spines, but nobody knows what he looks like. He blends in like a regular businessman, hiding his wealth and multiple families from everyone, including the police.

Echoes of a Real-Life Villain

The film eerily mirrors the case of Evans, a notorious Nigerian kidnapper caught in 2017. Just like Eric, Evans had a network, made millions, and kept his family in the dark. But here’s the twist: Osiberu doesn’t quite make Eric scary enough. He’s smart, yes, but not the terrifying figure everyone fears.

The Unraveling: A Single Mistake and Stinginess

A poignant aspect of the narrative unveils Eric’s stinginess towards his accomplices, providing meager compensation while pocketing substantial sums from victim families. This stinginess becomes a catalyst for betrayal, adding a layer of complexity to the character dynamics.

A Satisfying Watch:

Despite the darkness, “The Trade” leaves you feeling oddly satisfied. It’s a well-crafted story, expertly directed by the brilliant Jade Osiberu. This woman knows how to make movies!

So, should you watch it? Absolutely! “The Trade” is a captivating thriller, a social commentary, and a showcase of Nollywood’s finest talents. Just don’t forget to give Jade Osiberu a big “gbosa”!
