Not less than 15 people (most of which were children and women) were killed by attackers in Kwahaslalek village, a community in the Mangu Local Government Area in Plateau State, on Tuesday night, January 23.

According to reports, the victims were killed and then set on fire in their village in what looks like a reprisal attack to the killings of some Fulanis, on Tuesday, in some Muslim-dominated communities in the LGA.

These killings are coming on the heels of the LG head declaring a 24-hour curfew following the mounting attacks that had led to the death of many residents.

Before this curfew was declared on Tuesday, January 22, however, a community believed to be harbouring Fulanis was ambushed by Christians who were allegedly retaliating against earlier attacks by the Fulanis.

The incident further persisted, leading to indigenous Muslims from Mangabu to allegedly, resort to burning the homes of Christians living in the community in retaliation for the earlier violence by those Christians.

An anonymous source in the community had explained to news men that as of the morning of Wednesday, January 24, more than 15 people had been killed and burnt inside their homes in Kwaghalalek on Tuesday night. The source had also added that some houses in Kinat had been set ablaze.
