The Africa Cup of Nations, the biggest football tournament in Africa, is usually held every two years. But things are getting a little tricky for the next edition, scheduled for 2025 in Morocco.
The current tournament in Ivory Coast is just about to wrap up, leaving everyone asking: when will the next one happen? CAF President Patrice Motsepe isn’t spilling the beans just yet, saying the focus right now is on finishing the current competition.
There’s a bit of a puzzle to solve. Normally, the tournament happens in January and February. But that wouldn’t leave much time for qualifying rounds, especially with other big events like the World Cup qualifiers happening too.
Moving it to the summer (June and July) sounds good, but that would clash with another major competition: the expanded Club World Cup. And delaying it to 2026 seems unlikely because of the huge, 48-team World Cup happening that year.
So, what’s the plan? Motsepe assures everyone that the tournament will happen “around that time” in 2025, but the exact dates are still under wraps. He promises more information soon, so we’ll have to wait and see when the next African football fiesta will kick off!
