It’s a time to exercise your public right—your right to public opinion and freedom of speech.

Our esteemed President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has initiated a three-step approach to evaluate his Ministers and heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) as his administration approaches its first year in office.

The objective is to establish a platform for public input on Ministerial performance, aiding in decisions regarding retention or replacement, as the government marks its first year on May 29, 2024.

According to reports from BusinessDay, credible sources from the presidential villa revealed that the launch of the platform, initially scheduled for Tuesday, has been postponed to next week. This delay allows the Office of the Special Adviser on Policy Coordination, headed by Hadiza Bala-Usman, to finalize the process.

The evaluation process will unfold in three stages. First, members of the public will have access to President Tinubu’s targets for each Ministry, enabling feedback on Ministerial performance aligned with these objectives. Subsequently, the Policy Coordination office will conduct its assessment, followed by evaluations from a panel of Consultants. These assessments will inform decisions on Ministerial retention or dismissal due to poor performance.

At a technical retreat organized for delivery desk officers of federal ministries, Bala-Usman emphasized the critical role of these officers in providing feedback and monitoring progress.

The retreat aimed to introduce delivery officers to the framework for progress tracking and build their capacity in monitoring delivery plans.

During the retreat, She emphasized President Tinubu’s commitment to dropping Ministers who fail to deliver on their mandates, underscoring the administration’s focus on improving the lives of Nigerians.

Following the Ministerial retreat in November 2023, President Tinubu tasked the Special Adviser on Policy and Coordination to activate a performance tracking system leveraging digital innovation.

The President emphasized the importance of diligence, innovative thinking, and an unrelenting focus on results in achieving the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

President Tinubu emphasized the importance of data in governance, highlighting its role in understanding challenges, designing effective solutions, and monitoring progress.

The Policy Coordination Office will rely primarily on recommendations from the first Ministerial retreat to assess the achievements of each Minister. The retreat recommended promoting an open bidding system for contracts to enhance transparency.
