The Senate has begun an investigation into the killing of the soldiers as it has urged its committees on Defence, Army, Navy and Air Force to work together with the military authorities to get more information on the remote and immediate cause of what it has tagged a dastardly act.

Several factors could potentially have been avoided to prevent this tragedy. One of them includes improving the method of gathering intelligence for starters. Early warnings about potential threats could have prevented the attack.

Another factor that could have prevented this tragedy was the proper distribution good equipment and solid training. Perhaps the fallen officers had been caught unawares by the youths and may-haps, the tools they had to work were were substandard or old or simply jot good enough. The loss of lives could have been prevented if the government can step up and do the needful towards its citizens.
