The Islamic holy month of Ramadan is a time when Muslim faithful around the world fast from sunrise to sunset, avoiding all food and drink. This sacred and spiritual practice helps Muslims to grow their faith.

Research has shown that consistently fasting can have exceptional benefits for the body and mind, but your skin can be stressed from the short-term reduction in food and water.

Refraining from taking any drink or food from sunrise to sunset for a whole month will no doubt takes a toll on one’s sleeping patterns, energy and hydration levels which may lead to a dull, dehydrated skin, dark circles, and under-eye puffiness.

For the black skin girlies, the skin tends to lose water and moisture faster because of the reduced ceramide levels.
Research has shown that one’s diet and skincare routine leading up to fasting will have a significant impact on how your skin actually fares during Ramadan. The two common skin issues to look out for during this time are dehydration and skin barrier damage, especially if you reside in a hot and dry climate.

Keeping this in mind, the key is to focus on the right skincare routine, prioritise the right ingredients for your skin type and eat right.

So what are the best kept secrets you need to imbibe this period to so your skin can stay glowing?

Ditch Sugar:

It’s no secret that sugar impacts our bodies negatively but did you know it’s harmful for the skin too?

It drastically ages our bodies, causes acne, weakens our immune system, causes the breakdown of collagen and elastin, making the skin saggy skin and more prone wrinkles.

Ditch sugar

Moisturise Properly:

Emphasis on this tip. Seriously, using a moisturizing cream should be an integral part of your daily routine. There are many benefits to doing this and one of it included helping prevent wrinkles.
The skin loses moisture during the day and during Ramadan, the fluids are not replenished as needed that is why a good moisturising routine is beneficial this period. Ensure you do not refrain from using your moisturizer.

Moisturize properly

Hydrate A Lot During Breakfast:

This is a key tip. Make sure you hydrate enough during breakfast as this is one of the limited time you get to replenish lost fluids.

Drinking enough water is very beneficial for your skin as it helps it to stay soft and supple. Be mindful of consuming water and natural juices that are rich in vitamins.

Hydrate a lot during breakfast

Prioritise Your Sleep Time:

Your sleep patterns can get disrupted during Ramadan but, it is important to remember that adequate sleep (7-8 hours recommended) is required for an overall well-being and for skin cell regeneration. If you’re able to, keep a regular sleep schedule for a balanced sleep cycle. If this will be harder fir you to do, then make time for sleep whenever possible.

Prioritize your sleep time

Avoid Caffeine:

Want glowy skin? Cut back on caffeine immediately. Sugary drinks a.k.a sodas and caffeine are well known for sucking out the minerals in the body, which is not a good thing for the skin.

Avoid caffeine

By practicing some of these tips and leading a healthy lifestyle, you can maintain your skin glow for the duration of Ramadan and celebrate Eid looking your best!
