The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) at Apapa Port is celebrating a massive revenue haul in the first quarter of 2024! They raked in a whopping N489 billion, which is more than double what they collected during the same period last year (N213 billion).

This impressive feat is a big win for the country, and customs officials are calling it a “bold step” towards their ambitious annual target of nearly N2 trillion. But how will they reach that goal?

Working Together for Success

Customs chief Babajide Jaiyeoba praised his team and everyone involved in trade at Apapa Port for their cooperation. He emphasized the importance of following the rules, including customs laws, import/export restrictions, and approved procedures. By playing by the book, everyone benefits from a smoother and faster customs process.

Benefits for Everyone

Jaiyeoba encouraged all port users to embrace compliance. He highlighted the advantages of honesty, like a good reputation and potentially faster cargo clearance. Reliable traders might even qualify for special programs like “fast track” or “authorized economic operator” status, making their business even more efficient.

The Road Ahead

While the first quarter’s performance is a great start, there’s still a lot of work to be done. The customs service is committed to achieving their ambitious target and is urging everyone involved to keep working together. They believe that a focus on following the rules will lead to a more efficient and successful port for everyone.
