The Ogun state branch of The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), had declared an indefinite strike to commence on Monday, 8th of April.

This is in response to the refusal of the state government to pay the 40 percent peculiar allowance to members of the union.

This directive was revealed in a statement issued and jointly signed on Sunday by the JUSUN chairman, Ajiboye Olanrewaju, and the publicity secretary, Adewale Adenekan.

Comrade Adenekan said that the leadership of the union decided to embark on the indefinite strike after the expiration of the 14 days additional ultimatum that was given to the state government to meet their demands.

In retrospection, The union had embarked on a 5 day warning strike earlier in February, to protest the non-payment of the Peculiar Allowance to the State Judiciary workers.

According to the statement, the leadership of the union in order to support their claim that Judiciary as an independent body was entitled to the allowance had forwarded necessary documents requested by the representative of the Government since Friday 8th March 2024 to The State Governor, copied the SSG, HOS, and Attorney General of the State including the approval issued by the National Salaries and Wages Commission to the NJC for the payment of the Peculiar Allowance to the Federal Judiciary Workers .

The statement further directed, “Every member of JUSUN in Ogun is directed to stay at their various homes beginning from Monday,
Please don’t bother to come to the office until further notice from the leadership of the union.”
