War’s Devastating Impact

The conflict, which began in April 2023 between the Sudanese army and paramilitary forces, has caused widespread damage. Infrastructure is destroyed, and millions have been displaced within Sudan and fled to neighboring countries. Tragically, thousands of innocent civilians have lost their lives. Both sides of the conflict stand accused of war crimes.

Sudan Crisis Deepens as Aid Access Remains Blocked: WHO Warns of Worsening Situation

Limited Aid, Dire Consequences

The WHO warns that without a ceasefire and unrestricted access for aid workers to deliver essential supplies, Sudan’s crisis will spiral further out of control. Millions require urgent medical attention, and diseases like cholera, malaria, and dengue are spreading rapidly.

Health System on the Brink

Medical supplies are critically low, with only an estimated 25% of needs being met. Shockingly, 70-80% of Sudan’s health facilities are non-functional due to the war. Entire regions, like Darfur, haven’t received medical supplies in over a year. This disruption to public health services, including vaccinations, is leading to a rise in disease outbreaks.

Time Running Out: Urgent Action Needed

The WHO emphasizes the urgency of the situation. They warn that the worst is yet to come if fighting doesn’t stop and unrestricted aid access isn’t granted. The crisis in Sudan not only threatens the lives of millions within the country but risks destabilizing the entire region.
