CAN chides FG on Prosecuting twitter ban violators.

The Christian Association of  Nigeria (CAN) has chided FG on the decision to prosecute twitter users yesterday in an interview.

Rev. Dr. Samson Ayokunle

On Saturday, the AGF Malami in his words said:

“We’re definitely on it to ensure the prosecution of all violators.”

Although the Federal Government has said that the ban is temporary, the statement has birthed several reactions from prominent personalities including the General Overseers of churches, the Attorney General himself, former Ekiti state governor, Oyo state governor, former minister of education, and governor Ortom.

Yet, Malami, after going on Twitter on  Tuesday yesterday, still insisted that all those violating the suspension order placed on the operations of the social media platform would be prosecuted. His SA on media, Umar, made this known in an interview.

The Christian Association of Nigeria, however, warned the government against arresting and prosecuting  Twitter ban violators, especially clerics whose tweets were meant for their church members worldwide.

The ban is surrounded by many controversies, as even senior lawyers in the country has spoken against it, and demand that the FG have a rethink on the decision. Nigerians have also asked the FG to begin the prosecution with itself, seeing that it hypocritically downloaded VPN and accessed Twitter on Tuesday, 8 June, 2021.
