Dark Charges: Nigerians Held Hostage By Unfair Electrical Tariffs

The recent hike in electricity tariffs has left millions of Nigerians reeling, wondering if the promise of constant power supply is nothing more than a mirage. Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has sounded the alarm, exposing the “illegality of tariffs” that has left the nation in the dark.

Falana’s revelation has left Nigerians feeling betrayed and outraged. The government, led by the Minister of Power, has shamelessly surrendered to the dictates of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, prioritizing their interests over the welfare of its own citizens.

FG NOW PUPPET TO FINANCIAL AID

The Honourable Minister of Power has become a puppet, dancing to the tune of the IMF and World Bank, while Nigerians suffer the consequences. The government’s actions are a slap in the face, leaving citizens feeling helpless and abandoned.

The World Bank and IMF’s grip on Nigeria’s power sector has led to skyrocketing tariffs, crippling the economy and plunging millions into darkness. The government’s complicity in this scheme has erased any memory of accountability, leaving Nigerians to bear the brunt of their decisions.

The people demand answers. They demand a government that prioritizes their needs, not the interests of foreign institutions.

Band A customers, who pay the highest tariffs, are promised 20-24 hours of electricity daily, while those in Band C receive a meager 12-16 hours. But the reality is far from this promise. The numbers game is a smokescreen, hiding the fact that Nigerians are paying more for less.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank have pulled the strings, imposing the hike in tariffs without a public hearing, as required by law. The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) have failed to explain the reasoning behind this move, leaving Nigerians in the dark. Adebayo seems relaxed with his tactics as grieve citizens calls for his suspension.

As the investigation deepens, it becomes clear that the electricity quotas system is a web of deceit, designed to benefit a select few at the expense of the masses. The government and NERC are prioritizing profits over people, leaving Nigerians to suffer in the dark.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING?

Nigerians are still bleeding from the excessive increase in tariffs as many has publicly criticized the government decision calling it unacceptable. Rumors on possible protest isn’t far fetched. But Falana has this to say…

“The Nigerian government is following the instructions handed down by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. The Honourable Minister of Power is acting the script of the IMF and the World Bank.”

BOTTOM LINE:

One of the major key takeaway from the outrageous charge made by the Ministry of Power, despite the allocated budget assigned to the sector. Many cries as the bottle neck structure of  government is widely seen giving priority to first class citizens. People are subjected to ask if there’s a price for low current?
