Manchester City’s dynamic duo, Phil Foden and Khadija Shaw, have clinched the prestigious Footballers of the Year awards by the Football Writers’ Association.

Foden, 23, emerged as the standout candidate for the men’s award, having notched an impressive tally of 24 goals and 10 assists across 50 appearances in all competitions for City this season. The Stockport-born midfielder secured 42% of the vote, surpassing competitors Declan Rice and Rodri to claim the coveted title. Foden becomes the third City player in four years to clinch the award, following Erling Haaland in 2023 and Ruben Dias in 2021.

Expressing his pride, Foden stated, “I’m immensely proud to have won this award,” while emphasizing his focus on finishing the season strongly to aid City in their pursuit of more trophies.

Meanwhile, Shaw, 27, earned the accolade for Women’s Super League top scorer of the season, netting an impressive 21 goals in 18 games. The Jamaican striker edged out competition from Chelsea’s Lauren James to secure the women’s award, with City’s Alex Greenwood claiming third place.

Shaw’s stellar performances have propelled City to a six-point lead at the top of the WSL table, despite her unfortunate foot injury ruling her out for the remainder of the season. Reflecting on her achievement, Shaw expressed her gratitude for the special honor bestowed upon her.

Foden and Shaw’s triumphs mark yet another milestone for Manchester City, with Foden adding to the club’s recent dominance in the Football Writers’ Association awards.

As City continues its pursuit of a fourth consecutive Premier League title and maintains its commanding position in the Women’s Super League, the recognition of Foden and Shaw underscores the club’s continued success on both the men’s and women’s fronts.
