Several streets in Umuahia, the Abia State capital were left desolate on Thursday in compliance with the sit-at-home directive by the Biafran agitators to commemorate those who lost their lives during the Biafra war.
It should be noted however, that the capital city was not entirely grounded to a halt as people were seen milling about, although they weren’t much as some residents opted to stay indoors.
Most of the shops at Abia Tower roundabout were closed and their business owners hanging around the vicinity.
Motor parks in the city were also closed as drivers and commuters chose to remain at home.
It was a different scene in the education scene as some schools had opened, but a lot more did not.
Financial institutions in the state capital were also shut, bar their Automated Teller Machines, ATM.
At the time of filing this report, there has been no reported incidence of violence in any part of the state.
