At the time of filing this report, an unspecified number of people have died after bandits attacked Maro Junction market in the Maro Ward of Kajuru LGA, Kaduna State.

Prior to this attack, Kajuru has been notorious as the hotspot of banditry in Kaduna State.

Police reports from Kaduna State have confirmed the death, and revealed that five people had gotten injured from the attack while one person lost their life during the attack.

However, reports have differed as locals have admitted that no fewer than 12 people were gunned down during the attack.

In a confirmation message to a Channels Television reporter, the Spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Mansir Hassan, revealed that the bandits had ambushed the Maro Junction market at around 4:30 pm on Wednesday, and opened fire at the unsuspecting people inside the market, and shot indiscriminately at every direction.

He had also revealed that an investigation was still ongoing to determine the actual number of casualties.

It was also revealed that the police and other security operatives
had immediately rushed to the area upon getting a distress call and are presently trailing the bandits to arrest them.

Meanwhile, several locals have said that the bandits were suspected of initiating the attack from the Kanwa forest in the Kajuru local government, their hotbed.

More details to come…
