Why It Matters

The emirship tussle in Kano has escalated tensions in the city, leading to a significant rise in criminal activities by thugs. This situation poses a serious threat to the safety and peace of residents, disrupting the normalcy of daily life. Effective security measures are crucial to restoring order and ensuring the well-being of the community. The call for increased police presence and intervention from Governor Abba Yusuf reflects the urgent need for a strategic response to curb the activities of these criminal elements.

What They Are Saying

Residents have voiced their concerns and shared personal experiences, highlighting the urgency of the situation:

Abubakar Mohammad, a resident of Gwale LGA, shared the experience of his wife being robbed by thugs on Sunday. He appealed to Police Commissioner Usaini Gumel to deploy more security personnel to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Abdulmuni Shehu of Dala GA and Aishatu Abu of the Dan Agundi area also called for increased security measures to address the tense situation in the metropolis.

Sani Zulyadain, a resident of the Sagagi area in Kano Municipal LGA, appealed to the state government to take drastic measures to end the activities of thugs terrorizing innocent residents.

Ishaku Ibrahim, another resident of the Sagagi area, also appealed to Governor Yusuf to intervene in the ongoing attacks by hoodlums.

The residents are calling for increased security measures, including foot patrols and the deployment of plain-clothes operatives, to apprehend the thugs and restore community peace. They emphasized that the activities of these criminal-minded youths posed a significant threat to the peace Kano had been enjoying before the onset of the emirship tussle.

Official Responses

Police Commissioner Usaini Gumel assured the residents that the command was on top of the situation, stating,
“We mapped out security measures to apprehend those involved. I am passionately appealing to all the law-abiding and peace-loving residents to volunteer timely and credible information on the movement of hoodlums.”

Information Commissioner Baba Danteye stated that the state government and security agencies were effectively synergizing to bring all those behind the nefarious acts to book.

He said, “The Kano state government is fully committed to supporting the Police and other state security agencies in their efforts to maintain peace and security in the state. We urge all the residents to join forces with us by reporting any suspicious activities or characters to the nearest security office, enabling prompt action to be taken. Together, we can create a safer and more secure environment for everyone.”

Bottom Line

The ongoing emirate tussle in Kano has intensified security concerns among residents, prompting calls for immediate and robust intervention by the police and state government. Ensuring enhanced security measures and community cooperation is essential to restore peace and safety in Kano, allowing residents to live without fear of criminal activities.
