Ekperike Ekpo, the minister of state for petroleum resources (gas), has reaffirmed the determination of the federal government to use Nigeria’s enormous natural gas reserves for the country’s development.

Speaking on 7 June during the opening of the 300 MMscfd Kwale Gas Gathering (KGG) Facility and Nedogas Plant in Kwale, Delta state, Ekpo called the event ‘a significant step forward in Nigeria’s energy industry’.

He claims that the gas infrastructure supports the “Decade of Gas” project of the federal government, which intends to utilise our abundant natural gas supplies for the advancement of the country.

Beyond simply being industrial facilities, the Kwale Gas Gathering Facility and the Nedogas Plant stand as testaments to innovation, advancement, and sustainable development.

In partnership with the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC), a division of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, Xenergi Limited and NCDMB formed the Nedogas Development Company Limited (NDCL).

Why this matters

The KGG facility was built to manage stranded gas resources in Nigeria’s OML56 oil province by giving local independent operators the chance to profit from the natural gas in their fields by using the KGG’s infrastructure for gas gathering, compression, injection, and metering to gain rapid market access.

What they’re saying

“Seeing these facilities go into operation fills me with great pride because they represent important advancements in our efforts to utilise Nigeria’s abundant natural gas reserves.”

“The projects demonstrated the effectiveness of shared vision and collective effort in achieving remarkable outcomes as well as the power of partnership between the government, private sector, and local communities.
