The Federal Government has announced an extravagant lineup of events for this year’s Democracy Day. Surprise, surprise—another exclusive party for the elite. What exactly are we celebrating here?

The announcement was made by Abdulhakeem Adeoye, representing the Director of Information and Public Relations from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, on Sunday.

The festivities kick off on Tuesday, June 11, with a symposium at the State House Conference Centre, Presidential Villa, Abuja, at 9 a.m. One can only guess who will be in attendance—hint: not the common folk.

Later that day, the party continues with a youth conference at the Ladi Kwali Hall in Abuja Continental Hotel at 6 p.m. Perhaps another venue for the privileged few to discuss the future they’ve orchestrated?

A grand parade will take place on Wednesday, June 12, at 8:00am at Eagle Square, Abuja,” followed by “a dinner at the State House Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja, at 6:00pm,” the notice stated

Wednesday, June 12, promises even more pomp and pageantry with a grand parade at Eagle Square, Abuja, starting at 8 a.m. And as if that weren’t enough, the day will end with a luxurious dinner at the State House Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, at 6 p.m.

For those interested in attending, forget it. The notice clarifies that only accredited Villa correspondents will have access to the Presidential Villa events. That’s right—exclusive coverage for an exclusive crowd.

According to the notice, more updates will follow as the celebration nears. Stay tuned for further details on this parade of extravagance. In the meantime, one can’t help but wonder—who exactly is benefiting from this Democracy Day? Certainly not the average Nigerian.
