Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has clarified his remarks regarding the club’s participation in the revamped FIFA Club World Cup. Ancelotti’s comments to the Italian daily Il Giornale were interpreted as a rejection of the tournament due to perceived undervaluation of compensation for top clubs like Real Madrid.

Ancelotti had been quoted saying, “FIFA can forget it, footballers and clubs will not participate in that tournament,” referring to the dissatisfaction over FIFA’s financial offers for the 32-team tournament. He highlighted that a single Real Madrid match is worth €20 million and questioned FIFA’s proposed compensation for the entire tournament.

However, Ancelotti distanced himself from these comments in a subsequent social media post, emphasizing his commitment to the Club World Cup.

“Nothing could be further from my interest than to reject the possibility of playing in a tournament that I consider to be a great opportunity to continue fighting for major titles with Real Madrid,” he wrote.

Real Madrid, reaffirming their stance, stated their eagerness to compete in the tournament. “Our club will take part, as planned, in this official competition which we face with pride and the utmost enthusiasm to once again make our millions of fans all over the world dream of a new title,” the club said in an official statement.

Ancelotti, a seasoned manager with three Club World Cup titles and five Champions League wins, also reflected on the intense pressures faced by managers. He noted the significant burden of responsibility but affirmed his enduring passion for the game, stating, “I keep my passion; that’s how I live the match, the game, my job.”

The Club World Cup’s expansion and its impact on an already crowded football calendar remain contentious issues. Despite the scrutiny, Real Madrid and Ancelotti look forward to the challenge and the opportunity to add another trophy to their storied history.
