Rwanda’s Amavubi will welcome Nigeria’s Super Eagles to the newly refurbished Amahoro Stadium in Kigali for their crucial World Cup qualifier in March 2026. This match will mark the first international fixture at Amahoro since its extensive renovation.

The Amavubi, who have been playing their home games at the King Pele Stadium due to Amahoro’s closure for refurbishment, will now return to their historic home ground. The stadium’s renovation was a significant project aimed at meeting FIFA and CAF standards for hosting international matches. On Friday, both governing bodies gave their official approval, paving the way for its reopening.

Amahoro Stadium, a symbol of national pride, has been transformed with state-of-the-art facilities to ensure it meets the highest international standards. The upgrades include a modernized pitch, improved seating arrangements, and enhanced safety features, ensuring a world-class experience for players and fans alike.

Rwanda’s national team, the Amavubi, is set to play against the Super Eagles on the 6th day of the World Cup qualifiers.

This fixture is particularly anticipated as it follows Rwanda’s visit to Nigeria in the 5th round of qualifiers, setting the stage for a potentially decisive encounter in Kigali.

The Super Eagles, one of Africa’s football powerhouses, will face a rejuvenated Rwandan side eager to showcase their skills in front of a home crowd at Amahoro. The match promises to be a thrilling contest as both teams vie for valuable points on their road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Rwanda’s return to Amahoro Stadium is not just a sporting event but a moment of national celebration, symbolizing progress and the ability to host top-tier international football. Fans are expected to flock to the stadium, creating a vibrant and supportive atmosphere for their team.

As the countdown to the match begins, excitement is building in both countries. The Super Eagles will be looking to secure their spot in the World Cup, while the Amavubi will aim to make a strong statement in their newly revitalized home ground.

The refurbishment of Amahoro Stadium and its return to hosting international football marks a significant milestone for Rwanda, reflecting its growing ambitions in the world of sports.
