The Lagos State Police Command reported the arrest of a 35-year-old passenger who tried to steal an airport taxi from its driver. The command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest on Wednesday. The incident was reported by the taxi driver to the Alausa Police Division on June 11 at around 1:40 a.m.

The driver stated that at about 1:20 a.m., while providing a driving service in the Chevron area of Ajah, the suspect, posing as a passenger, stopped him.

The taxi driver said the suspect asked to be taken to the Shrine in the Agidigbi, Alausa area of Ikeja. After agreeing on the fare, they began the journey. When they reached Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way near 7UP Alausa Ikeja, the suspect, sitting next to him, pulled out a knife and tried to steal the car.

The driver sustained a deep cut on his hand during the struggle. He raised an alarm, and some bystanders came to his aid, causing the suspect to flee.

After a chase, the suspect was arrested by the Alausa police division’s Anti-Crime team. The suspect and the car were taken to the station as evidence, and the investigation is ongoing.

In a separate incident, a 28-year-old man was arrested for impersonating military personnel. He had been using his friend’s uniform, who is serving in Maiduguri.

The arrest took place last Friday at around 5:45 p.m. by officers from the Ilemba Hausa Division during a patrol on Jinadu Street, Ajangbadi. The man, dressed in full army camouflage and riding an unregistered black motorcycle, abandoned the bike and tried to flee when he saw the police but was quickly apprehended.

Preliminary investigations confirmed he was not a soldier, and the uniform belonged to his friend.
