Leicester City has announced the appointment of Steve Cooper as their new manager, marking a significant step as they prepare for the 2024/25 Premier League season. The 44-year-old Welshman has signed a three-year contract, taking over from Enzo Maresca, who recently departed for Chelsea.

Cooper’s appointment follows Leicester’s successful promotion from the Championship and signals a new era for the club. “I am really excited and proud to be appointed Leicester City’s First Team Manager. This is a fantastic club with a rich history and passionate supporters,” Cooper expressed. “I’m excited to work with such a talented squad and I’m looking forward to the challenge of achieving our shared ambitions in the Premier League.”

Cooper brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record in English football. His most recent managerial role was with Nottingham Forest, where he notably led the team to promotion from the Championship through the play-offs and subsequently secured their Premier League status in the following season.

Despite his success, Cooper faced challenges in the 2023/24 campaign, which led to his departure from Forest. Since then, he has been selective about his next role, reportedly turning down offers from Championship clubs to seek a return to top-flight football.

Earlier in his career, Cooper achieved commendable success with Swansea City, guiding them to consecutive play-off appearances. His managerial prowess also extends to the international stage, having coached England’s under-16 and under-17 teams to significant accomplishments, including winning the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2017.

Leicester City’s decision to bring Cooper on board underscores their ambition to consolidate their Premier League position and build on their rich legacy. As Cooper prepares for his first match against Tottenham Hotspur on the opening day of the 2024/25 season, the Foxes’ faithful will be eager to see how he steers the club through the challenges of the top tier.

Cooper’s experience and tactical acumen will be crucial as he embarks on this new chapter with Leicester City, aiming to bring stability and success to the King Power Stadium.
