On Thursday, suspected armed robbers disrupted academic activities at Western Delta University, Oghara, in Delta State.
According to PUNCH Metro, the criminals entered the campus through an unfenced area at the back, intending to rob students.
Students, sensing the threat, quickly raised the alarm and sought refuge nearby. Law enforcement agents arrived promptly, preventing any casualties or significant disruption. The invaders reportedly fled in various directions upon seeing the security personnel.
When reached by the punch correspondent, SP Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Command, confirmed the incident.
He said, “They (the suspected robbers) entered through the broken fence at the back of the school, but the police responded swiftly and they fled.”
A student leader at the university, Simeon Okpoko, remarked that the incident highlights the ongoing security challenges at educational institutions and the need for vigilant security measures to protect students and staff.
