Donald Trump stated that he intends to provide green cards to foreign graduates of US institutions, indicating a softening of his traditionally hard-line stance on immigration, a critical election topic.

The Republican contender made the remarks in a podcast aired on Thursday, just days after President Joe Biden proposed a citizenship option for immigrants married to US residents, countering his recent crackdown on illegal border crossings.

A green card is the most frequent name for a permanent resident card in the United States, which is a step towards citizenship.

Trump stated that this should apply to “anybody who graduates from a college,” including those who complete two-year programmes, known as junior colleges, and doctoral grads.

He also stated that American businesses require “smart people,” adding, “They can’t even make a deal with a company because they don’t think they’ll be able to stay in the country.” “That is going to end on day one,” Trump declared.

During Trump’s administration from 2017 to 2021, he ordered the construction of a wall along the US-Mexico border and imposed a travel ban on persons from predominantly Muslim countries.

He also noted that American firms need “smart people,” adding, “They can’t even make a deal with a company because they don’t think they’ll be able to stay in the country.” “That is going to end on day one,” Trump promised. During his presidency from 2017 to 2021, Trump ordered the construction of a wall along the US-Mexico border and placed a travel ban on people from mostly Muslim nations.

What they’re saying

When asked initially on the podcast if he would guarantee to assist bring the “best and brightest from around the world to America,” Trump replied, “I do promise. “He stated, “I know of stories where people graduated from a top college or from a college and desperately want to stay here…” And they can’t.

“They go back to India and China. They perform the same basic business in various areas and become multi-billionaires, employing thousands upon thousands of people,” Trump stated.

“What I want to do and what I will do is, you graduate from a college, I think you should get automatically as part of your diploma a green card to be able to stay in this country,” President Trump said on the podcast All-In.

Thoughts

Donald Trump’s pledge to grant green cards to foreign graduates of US institutions marks a notable shift from his previous strict immigration policies. Traditionally known for his tough stance on immigration, including the construction of a border wall and travel bans, Trump now proposes to provide green cards to anyone graduating from a US college, including two-year programs and doctoral graduates.(Think about it!)

Bottom Line

This proposal contrasts sharply with his earlier policies and aligns more closely with efforts to attract skilled immigrants, which are also part of broader immigration discussions in the US.
