Emirate Drama Continues: Kano Court Postpones Hearing on Ex-Emir’s Activities

Nigeria’s long-running Emirate saga took another turn today in Kano State. The High Court, led by Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu, has postponed a lawsuit aiming to prevent the deposed Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, and four others from claiming the title. The next hearing is now set for July 2nd, 2024.

This case reignites simmering tensions surrounding the Kano Emirate. Let’s rewind: Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, a prominent figure, was dramatically removed from his position in 2020 by the Kano State government. The reasons behind his removal remain a point of contention. Aminu Ado Bayero was then appointed as the new Emir.

However, it seems not everyone agrees with this change. This lawsuit targets not only the former Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, but also four others. The details of their alleged involvement haven’t been made public yet, but it adds another layer of complexity to the situation.

The postponement allows all sides more time to prepare their arguments. With the next hearing scheduled for July, Kano residents and Nigerians watching nationwide will wait to see how this Emirate drama unfolds.
