The Police Command of Ekiti State has detained 21 people in connection with recent killings and other crimes in the state. According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), gunmen recently killed four individuals, including a commercial motorbike ticket agent, in various areas within the Ado-Ekiti metropolis.
DSP Sunday Abutu, the command’s spokesman, told reporters in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday that the suspects were apprehended after the command conducted a discreet investigation.
According to the command spokesperson, the defendants were arrested for alleged armed robbery and cultism.
Abutu claimed that the accused were members of several cult groups that killed people in the state as retaliation against their confraternity.
He stated that a police inquiry discovered that one of the accused belongs to the ‘Eiye Confraternity.’
Abutu stated that subsequent inquiry resulted in the arrest of several other individuals, including members of a prominent cult gang who allegedly travelled from Plateau to participate in the act.
He stated that the culprits would shortly be charged in court.
Abutu asked locals to remain cautious and work with law enforcement to prevent crimes from occurring. (NAN)
Moving Forward
The mention of suspects traveling from Plateau State to participate in criminal activities in Ekiti highlights the interstate nature of some criminal operations.
This underscores the need for robust inter-state collaboration and intelligence-sharing among law enforcement agencies to effectively combat crime.
