Finidi George has swiftly transitioned from his brief tenure as Super Eagles head coach to a new role at Rivers United. The 53-year-old football legend, who led the Nigerian national team for only a month, has been appointed as the head coach of Rivers United, signing a two-year contract with the club.

George’s departure from the Super Eagles came after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) revealed plans to bring in a foreign technical adviser, prompting his resignation. Under his brief leadership, the Super Eagles managed just one win in four games. Despite the short stint, George remains optimistic and ready to make a significant impact in the Nigerian Premier Football League.

At his unveiling ceremony with Rivers United, George expressed his readiness to channel his expertise into local football. “My job with the Super Eagles did not work out, I have to move on and impact our league here. You can’t just be idle as a coach,” he stated. This move marks a new chapter for the former Ajax winger, who is eager to contribute to the development of Nigerian football at the club level.

Rivers United, former champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League, are looking forward to benefiting from George’s extensive experience both as a player and coach. His appointment is seen as a strategic move to bolster the team’s performance and aspirations in the upcoming seasons.

George’s transition to Rivers United signifies not just a fresh start for him but also highlights the dynamic nature of coaching careers in football. As he embarks on this new journey, the football community watches with keen interest, hopeful that his leadership will propel Rivers United to new heights.

With his rich football legacy and commitment to advancing Nigerian football, Finidi George’s tenure at Rivers United promises to be an exciting and transformative period for both the club and the league.
