The Lagos State Police Command has taken into custody one of its officers accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl at the Area H Command in Ogudu. SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the detention to the News Agency of Nigeria.
He refuted claims that the police were protecting the accused officer and mentioned that the officer had initially fled but later surrendered for interrogation.
Hundeyin emphasized that the case was not being ignored and assured the public that Commissioner of Police Mr. Adegoke Fayoade had instructed the Gender Unit to investigate promptly.
The incident involved a senior officer at Area H Command Ogudu, where the girl sought help to recover her stolen phone. Instead, she was allegedly raped by the officer after providing her statement.
