From January to December this year, Nigerians have proved themselves in different best records and impressed the Guinness World Records in a valiant effort. Ultimately, the most-discussed record is the latest one: Babajide Isreal Adebanjo whose name became well-known after he managed to set the record for the world’s longest time of twerking alone.

This young Nigerian, Babajide Isreal Adebanjo set the magnificent record of being able to twerk non-stop for 3 hours and 30 minutes on the 14th day of January, 2024 to deserve a place in the Guinness World Records. Speaking to this reporter, his achievement can be ascertained on the recently verified official Guinness World Records’ website and as expected has created an outcry on the different social platforms, from admiration to disbelief.

Motivation was not only the desire to break a record as in the case of Babajide, he wanted to go beyond the ordinary and raise consciousness about depression at the international level. Through his twerking marathon, Babajide sent a powerful message: it gives the message anybody can succeed in accomplishing their dreams or ideas however peculiar they may appear. His story is an example that shows how personal adversities can be transmuted into the general public’s benefits.

The past year has witnessed spike in the passion by West Africans especially is Nigerians to shatter and create more Guiness world Records. These records are the attempts that have showcased the region’s potentials and the spirit of the people, whether in the physical and mental toughness. Babajide’s case is also socially constructed therefore forms part of the general trend of Nigerians’ resilience and innovativeness in the larger world platform.
