The Abuja Markets Management Limited (AMML) has warned traders and market users in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) against participating in the nationwide protest scheduled for August 1. The protest is aimed at finding a government solution to the rising cost of living in the country.
Interacting with traders in Abuja on Sunday, the Managing Director of AMML, Abbas Yakubu, advised traders to cooperate with security agencies to stop persons with suspicious minds masquerading as peaceful protesters who did not enter the market.
He recalled the shocking incident of traders in Wuse Market where miscreants torched shops, including police stations, causing the loss of millions of naira.
Yakubu put a lot of stress on the importance of the merchants at the market to be ready and to turn back the troublemakers who come to the market with the intent of creating problems.
He pointed out that even if the protest does not take place due to the withdrawal of most of the groups, it is necessary to be alert and provide safe market conditions.
