The management of MTN, a South African owned telecommunications giant has announced the closure of all its shops across Nigeria amid the protest over massive disconnection of SIM cards due to non-linkage with National Identification Number (NIN).
This notice of closure was contained in a short notice issued via the company’s official social media handles, announcing that the offices would be closed on Tuesday, 30th July, 2024.
Recall that on Monday, July 29, furious Nigerians stormed the offices of MTN in the major cities of the country to protest the disconnection of their SIM cards.
This came after thousands of Nigeria woke up to their SIM cards being blocked by the MTN management on Sunday.
The disconnection was said to have come as Nigerian telcos scramble to implement the NIN-linkage policy introduced in December 2020 and scheduled to be implemented until July 31, 2024.
