The interim injunction granted by the Lagos High Court has put a stop on the proposed demonstration to be held on August 1, which has been restricted to the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Ojota and the Peace Park in Ketu.

This means that the said protest, as per the order of Justice Emmanuel Ogundare, shall be carried out only in these two assigned places from eight o’clock in the morning to six o’clock in the evening from August 1 until 10.

The Lagos State Attorney General, Lawal Pedro, SAN, by means of an ex parte application, is trying to make sure that the protest does not get out of control and cause loss of property and disorder. Pedro stressed that the Lagos police force lacks personnel because they cannot deploy additional police officers to the event, who were going to demonstrate in all local government councils, public highways, and other public spaces.

The judiciary’s decision ensures that the facilities are protected, the loss of lives and the loss of property should be curtailed, and the order in the state should be maintained. These are the primary reasons for the creation of these zones that would give the citizens the space to express their demands while not creating any potential disturbances and damages.

The defendant in this case are Adamma Ukpabi and Tosin Harsogba from the Active Citizens Group, Juwon Sanyaolu and Hassan Soweto from the Take It Back Movement, some code-named individuals and the highest-ranking police officer in Lagos State.

The court safeguarded the non-belligerent nature of the protest as well as citizens’ rights security by giving temporary order.
