The former Niger Delta freedom fighter, Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, has given a piece of advice to the initiators of the massive demonstration against economic problems, that is, the one which is scheduled to be held on August 1. He has called for protesters to avoid the Niger Delta region.
This was stated at the Niger Delta Sensitization Conference for Ethnic Nationalities, Youths, and Women on Tuesday. In his view, the main idea of the people conducting the protests does not meet the demands of the inhabitants of the Niger Delta region.
He accuses them of showing more interest in receiving the region’s natural resources but he goes further saying that they are “anarchists.”
Asari-Dokubo told the NGOs and community leaders that wanted to “reclaim their country” that they should tell him where the election is, he would go and lose it and keep the group. He alleged that the funders of the initiatives had unhorsed some local politicians in the past elections.
He emphasized that he and those who share his view would not participate in the planned protest. He stated, “If you feel that you have a right to demonstrate, well, I also have the right not to demonstrate where my rights are going to be affected by your rights.”
