A businessman has allegedly been killed by a stray bullet during a violent protest in Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The bullet had purportedly been fired by a marine police near the Yauri River and it reportedly struck the victim while he was in his shop selling plastics.
A local resident, Mallam Umar Valo Yelwa who spoke to news reporters had noted that the protest took a sharp turn when demonstrators blocked the federal highway which majorly disrupted traffic entering Yauri town.
The marine police had then attempted to scatter the crowd by reportedly firing shots, resulting in a stray bullet fatally wounding the plastic seller whose identity is yet to be named.
Meanwhile, efforts to obtain a statement from the Nigeria Police Force’s Kebbi State Command were unsuccessful, as the police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar, declined the calls or text messages made to him.
Meanwhile, reports from the state capital, Birnin Kebbi have revealed that the area remains calm amidst the ongoing protest.
