The Plateau State Government has praised demonstrators in the state for their peaceful, orderly, and disciplined conduct during the protest.

Hon Musa Ashom, Plateau Commissioner for Information and Communication, issued the appreciation in a statement in Jos on Saturday.

Ashom stated, “The recent protests in Plateau State have been a refreshing departure from the often chaotic and destructive narratives that frequently accompany such demonstrations.”

“It is admirable to see citizens exercising their right to protest as guaranteed by the constitution while upholding a strict code of conduct and showing consideration for public property.”

The Commissioner praised the demonstrators for using a nonviolent strategy to spread their message and pointed out that Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang had correctly recognised residents’ rights to peacefully voice their complaints.

He said that the protesters choice to tidy up the streets after their protests is evidence of their civic awareness and love for their neighbourhood.

“Such efforts not only stand in stark contrast to the destructive tendencies observed in some sectors, but also demonstrate the potential for protests to serve as platforms for positive change.

“We must also thank the security agencies for their professionalism in handling the protesters.

“Their focus in maintaining peace and order cannot be overstated,” he said

Final Thoughts

This positive atmosphere could pave the way for more constructive dialogue between the government and its citizens.

The Plateau State’s approach could also serve as an example for other states on how to handle protests peacefully.
