World champion Tobi Amusan qualified for the semi-finals of the 100-meter hurdles at the ongoing 2024 Olympics in Paris Wednesday. Amusan dominated her heat in a time of 12.49 seconds, ahead of America’s Alaysha Johnson with 12.61 seconds and Jamaica’s Janeek Brown, who crossed with 12.84 seconds.

The Nigeria track queen, Amusan, contests for an Olympic medal at Stade de France. She came into global limelight three years ago in Tokyo but narrowly missed a podium finish in the women’s 100m hurdles.

The 27-year-old woman shattered a world record at the 2022 World Athletics Championship, held in Eugene, Oregon, USA, with 12.12 seconds. Since Amusan is the reigning champion of both the Commonwealth and African competitions in the 100m hurdles, she has set meet records in such events. Moreover, she is also the reigning Diamond League champion after succeeding in pulling off a win continuously from 2021 to 2023.

In this will be tough competition from elite athletes, which includes defending Olympic champion of Puerto Rico, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn. With the whole world watching to see this remarkable athlete perform during the semi-finals and finally add an Olympic medal to her bright collection, Amusan will be at the forefront.
