The Department of State Services (DSS) has finally released eight of the twelve aides of Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as (Sunday Igboho) on Monday.

According to their lawyer, Barrister Olajengbesi disclosed that four detainees were still in custody, an action he sees as blatant disregard of the court order asking all of the 12 aides to be released.

The way and manner court orders are being flouted in this present administration is becoming unprecedented.

The judiciary has been on the receiving end of attack, disregard and high disrespect in this present administration. It’s dangerous if the third arm of government becomes more or less a toothless bulldog.

The Judiciary needs to be respected by all agencies of the government. The government is seen in some quarters and by some Senior Advocates of Nigeria as inviting anarchy and lawlessness by disregarding a court order.

At least, one will expect agencies within the government to obey court rulings before any thing, before taking another step, but the reverse is the case.

It’s a case of what will happen if we don’t obey, and as this is another serious dent on this present administration, the judiciary needs to be protected as it is still an important core in the development and stabilization of this nation.

According to Bar. Olajengbesi, his clients have met the bail conditions including the provision of 24 sureties as stated by the ruling given by Justice Obiora Egwatu of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

But four of the detainees are still in custody, according to the DSS lawyer, Idowu Awo, he claims the four are heavily involved in the alleged offence of arms stockpiling and other criminal activities of Sunday Igboho.

Claiming their release will stall their investigations, the DSS need not a reminder that the judiciary supercedes their judgement, and they ought to obey court orders.

The DSS should look for better approach and mode of investigation, they shouldn’t hide their perceived incompetence under the guise of stalling investigation.

All being said, the judiciary should not be crippled. They are the hope of the citizenry.
