National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has strictly opposed rumors circulating on social media regarding the implementation of a new minimum wage of N70,000, which is to be given to corps members. In a statement released on August 11, 2024, Eddy Megwa who is the NYSC’s Director of Information and Public Relations, clarified that no official directive has been issued to effect this change.
The NYSC also revealed that there was no instruction from the relevant government sector that is responsible for wages contrary to misleading reports. Therefore, it cannot initiate payment of the supposed N70,000 minimum wage.
The NYSC urges corps members, parents and members of the public at large not to pay attention to deceitful information being spread by people with wrong intentions. The statement cautioned corps members against upgrading their bank accounts as this has not been backed up with any real directive whatsoever.
To maintain this rapport with its corps members, the NYSC has said they will continue engaging them through proper channels.
It is worth noting that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), comprehensively denies implementation of a N70,000 minimum wage for corps members, urging stakeholders to remain vigilant against misinformation
