Two wonderful strikes in second half from Vivian Adjei Konadu and Princella Adobea gave Ghana a 2-0 win over Cameroon in the last-but one game of Aisha Buhari Cup on Monday evening at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos.

The both teams had already lost their opening game with Ghana losing 3-0 to South Africa and Cameroon also suffering a defeat 1-0 to Morocco, and there’s a need on Monday evening to put their image out there again.

Goalkeepers Ange Bawow and Bertha Abega were the two changes made by Cameroon’s Gabriel Zapo from the opening day loss to Morocco. To avoid another thumping, Ghanian head coach, Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo introduced Tweneboaa Justice, Elizabeth Owusuaa and Vivian Adjei Konadu to the team.

The game started with Ghana dominating in some areas but failed to convert their chances. Vivian Adjei Konadu missed a clear cut chance after an exciting counter-attack. Bawow Ange justified her inclusion in the starting eleven with two sublime saves from Princella Adobea and Grace Asantewaa.

The second half started with both teams trying to catch themselves on the back foot and in the 59th minute, a defence splitting pass from Asentewaa saw Princella Adubea stormed down the left flank to chip the ball over the on rushing Bawow Ange Gabrielle for the opener.

Bawow Ange was again called into action in the 73rd minute, after parrying away substitute Sonia Opoku’s long-rang effort. Two minutes, Vivian Konadu couldn’t extend her team’s lead with her low drive shot going wide off the post.

The game was put to bed by the Black Queens, with Vivian Konadu dazzling past three Cameroonian defenders to slot home the winning goal.

The Queens will tavel back to Ghana to prepare for their Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifier against 11-times champion, Nigeria next month which will also see the Cameroonians go up against Central African Republic.
