Afrobeats singer and producer Maleek Berry recently decided to tell the story that he and his partner, Davido, were doing in his first year in the music industry. Appearing as a guest on the ’90s Baby’ podcast, the “Kontrol” performer shared that the Nigerian star used to act as an ordinary boy in search of a hit when they were recording together while, in fact, he was a multi-millionaire.
Berry narrated on how they started, He said that he met Davido through one of the cousins on Facebook. At that time Davido was relatively new and unknown having only a few thousand views on you tube channel. They soon became friends and most of the time they produced a song in a studio in Bermondsey, London.
However, Berry was in for a surprise when he later visited Davido’s family home. “He acted around us like one of those poor kids. But when I pulled up to his dad’s crib, I was surprised. There’s money and there’s money!” Berry exclaimed, noting how seamlessly Davido blended in with them despite his wealthy upbringing.
Other memories that came out included that it was Davido who later introduced Berry to another Afrobeats superstar, Wizkid; proving just how influential Davido was to Berry’s progression in the music industry.
