The Yoruba Union, Igbinmọ Majekobaje Ilẹ-Yoruba, has pointed out that President Bola Tinubu should resign because of his administration’s economic policies, which have pushed people into poverty and increased hardship. The union expressed deep concern over the recent hike in fuel prices, which affected the southwest region and Nigeria as a whole.

In a statement released on Sunday, Convener Olusola Oluwaseyi Badero condemned the IMF policy implementation by the government as one that suffocated businesses and had negative effects on Yoruba people. He cited Nigerians’ inability to afford basic meals as evidence of the latter.

The union demanded an apology from President Tinubu for his “anti-people policies” and called for his resignation, citing failure to deliver on campaign promises and prioritizing expenditure on luxurious items over the well-being of the citizens.

The Yoruba Union declared its support for the ‘Fearless in October‘ protests, urging all Yoruba people to join and exercise their constitutional right to protest. The union reaffirmed its commitment towards protecting the interests of Yoruba people, who have continued to bear the brunt from this regime.

This year’s ‘Fearless in October’ protests aim at building upon previous #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria protests.
