INEC Opens Accreditation Portal for Ondo State Governorship Election Coverage

In preparation for the upcoming Ondo State governorship election, scheduled for November 16, 2024, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has opened its online portal for media accreditation. This initiative aims to facilitate the participation of media organisations and journalists wishing to cover the election process.

Accreditation Portal Details

INEC made this announcement through a statement issued on Monday by its National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun. According to the statement, the portal is live and will remain open until midnight on Thursday, October 31, 2024. This provides media outlets with ample time to apply and ensure their reporters and technical staff are accredited for the event.

Media coverage plays a crucial role in the Nigerian democratic process, by ensuring accountability and transparency. INEC’s call for media accreditation reflects the commission’s commitment transparent election, observed and reported accurately.
