On the 10th of September, 2024, Nicki Minaj expressed her opinion regarding the NFL’s choice of Kendrick Lamar for the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show in New Orleans. According to her, Lil Wayne, her boss at Young Money Records, should be the featured artist since he is one of the defining icons in hip hop and is from New Orleans.

Despite the controversy, some of the viewers believed that Lil Wayne was not suitable for the show. In response, Minaj engaged into a comical rant to illustrate her Nigerian side. She jokingly alluded to Ayra Starr’s song ‘Comma’ stating ‘Sabi Girl no dey too like talk’.

“LMFAOOOO. Nigeria will not end me o! Sabi girl no Dey too like talk. My words take the express elevator to the most high chi. I will show them pepper,” Minaj wrote, amusing many of her Nigerian followers.

This is not the first time the rapper has flaunted her affinity to the Nigerian tradition. She had earlier raised eyebrows when she engaged a troll in pidgin English and fans wanted to know how she picked the language. Minaj revealed she was well-versed in the everyday language, further endearing herself to her Nigerian fanbase.
