Osun Reduces Workdays For Workers, Extends Palliative

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has endorsed a reduction in the number of working days to alleviate the effects of high transport prices among public servants. A statement from the governor’s aide, Olawale Rasheed, informs that the new policy is contained in a circular from the Office of the Head of Service.

The circular indicates that public servants in Grade Level 01-10 will work three days a week, while those in Grade Level 12-17 will work four days a week. Essential staff, such as medical doctors, security personnel, political appointees, and account officers, are, however, not included.

How this arrangement will work – for example, which days each individual will work – is under the jurisdiction of accounting officers in charge of various ministries and agencies.

Furthermore, apart from reducing working days, Governor Adeleke has extended palliative payments to public servants for two months before the new minimum wage takes effect. This aims to offset the negative effects of subsidy removal and help residents cope with cost impacts.

“Workers’ welfare is crucial to the governor, and he considers the present economic state of the country,” the statement said.
