At the time of filing this report at about 9:45 am, officials of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) are yet to arrive at polling units in several parts of the state.

This is coming after ANSIEC made bold statements on Friday that the election would begin at 8 a.m. and close by 4 p.m., but as of 8:50 a.m., officials were yet to show up at the polling units in most parts of the state.

According to a Daily Post correspondent, in several parts of Awka, there were no signs of the election taking place in those areas.

The polling units visited included Aroma Ward 3, Odoagba Ward 1, and a polling unit at Unizik Junction.

Consequently, an observer, Mr. Agbo Kenneth Chidiebere, had said that at Iyiowa/Odekpe, an area close to Onitsha axis, the polling units in Ogbaru Local Government Area, that no activity had begun, including the arrival of officials.

Mr Agbo had said: “At the time of this report, no ANSIEC ad-hoc staff, security personnel, or electoral materials have arrived at the polling unit. Only one party agent from APGA is here at the moment. People are seen carrying out their monthly sanitation in their various houses.”
