The Nationwide protest tagged “EndBadGovernance” commenced in Ibadan today. Protesters came together at Mokola Roundabout to address the economic hardship faced by Nigerians. This protest is part of a bigger movement and happened on Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day.

Solomon Emiola, who helps lead the Take It Back Movement in Oyo state, said he’s sad about how things are going in the country. He thinks the Independence Day should remind us of the problems we face. Emiola emphasized the need to reverse recent hike in prices for petrol, electricity, and school fees. He said, “We’re here today to say no to the hard times Nigerians are facing. We don’t think Independence Day is something to celebrate when people are suffering.”

The protesters demands immediate from the government to alleviate sufferings of Nigerians. Their main requests are to lower the cost of petrol, reduce electricity bills, make school fees cheaper, and fix the country’s broken refinery to help the economy.

Despite low turnout, the protest shows that more Nigerians are unhappy. The protest is peaceful, and the people are using their right to speak out. The police are being asked to respect the protesters’ rights.
