Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka was made to limp off in what looked to be a leg problem as England lost 2-1 to Greece in the UEFA Nations League at Wembley on Thursday evening. The defeat was England’s first-ever defeat against Greece on the international stage, thanks to a double from Benfica’s Vangelis Pavlidis.
Saka, so key for club and country, limped off in the 51st minute due to discomfort in his right leg. After looking to continue, eventually the winger fell to the turf and was replaced by Chelsea’s Noni Madueke.
Interim England boss Lee Carsley also spoke about Saka’s condition after the match: “He’s being assessed. In the build-up to the first goal, you could see he felt something in his leg.” The injury status of Saka now falls under review as Arsenal fans head into an anxious wait.
The Gunners next play Bournemouth on 19 October with their starting lineup already weakened by the absence of their captain Martin Odegaard due to an ankle injury he sustained on international duty in September with Norway. England, meanwhile, will look to bounce back on Sunday when they take on Finland in their next UEFA Nations League outing.
