An ethics and disciplinary inspector has been appointed by UEFA to investigate the incident relating to Premier League referee David Coote after a video surfaced which allegedly showed him snorting a white substance during Euro 2024. It is for the second time that such an incident has happened with Coote, as earlier a video surfaced showing him making offensive remarks about former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp, following which PGMOL suspended him on Monday.
The newest video, from The Sun, amplified demands for more measures to investigate Coote’s performance when he refereed at Euro 2024 in Germany. UEFA had already suspended Coote and acknowledged that an investigation was under way. “A UEFA ethics and disciplinary inspector has been appointed to review a potential breach of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations by referee Mr. David Coote,” said an official.
The Football Association is also investigating Coote’s comments about Klopp. PGMOL said it would continue to support Coote’s welfare during the investigation and a spokesman added:
“We are aware of the allegations and are taking them very seriously. David Coote remains suspended pending a full investigation.”
Further details regarding the findings of the investigation will be announced as the report is considered by UEFA and the FA.
